SMIC Releases Presentation Materials from its Analyst Day on September 15, 2009

Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation ("SMIC"; NYSE: SMI and SEHK: 0981.HK) held its first Analyst Day in Shanghai, China on 15 September, 2009. Marco Mora, Chief Operating Officer, Morning Wu, Acting Chief Financial Officer, and other members of SMIC's senior management team discussed the Company's strategies on operations, marketing and sales, and technology development within the context of achieving the Company's profitability target. Vincent Gu, a senior analyst at iSuppli, was invited to be the keynote speaker to provide insight about the China IC market. In addition, the event had the honor of receiving top executives from two of SMIC's Chinese customers. Stanly Zhao, Chief Executive Officer of GalaxyCore Inc. and Feng Chen, Chief Marketing Officer of Fuzhou Rockchip Electronics Co., Ltd. discussed their companies' growth strategies as well as their views on the cooperative relationship with SMIC.

During the meeting the Company discussed its target for profitability which engages certain key components: technology migration, market conditions, lowering of fixed costs, and disciplined capital expenditure.
