SMIC ranked No.1 in Shanghai's Patent Press Conference

On June 30th, Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration held the 2013 Shanghai Patent Situation Press Conference.

LU Guoqiang, secretary general of Shanghai Intellectual Property Joint Conference and director general of Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, introduced that, in 2013, the situation of patent application and authorization in Shanghai was featured by its constantly rising patent quality and continuously optimized patent structures, the relatively stable dominant creative position of the enterprise, and its capacity to incessantly increase patent applications.

This is the first time that Shanghai will convene the Shanghai patent situation press conference, comprehensively and systematically issue the city's patent situation, and reflect the supporting function of patent creation and application for serving “innovation-driven transformation and development” in Shanghai as well as in its economy and society.

It was introduced that, in 2013, enterprises in Shanghai had 24,363 applications for invention patents, accounting for 62.2% of the total invention patent applications, and 6,053 authorized invention patents, accounting for 56.9% of the total authorized invention patents.

Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (Shanghai), Baosteel Group Corporation and Shanghai Huahong NEC Electronics Co. Ltd., ranked as the top three in the city concerning invention patent authorization quantity.

By the end of 2013, the city had 48,370 valid invention patents, a year-on-year growth of 20%. The invention patent holding quantity per 10,000 persons in Shanghai was 20.3 pieces, an increase of 18% or 3.1 pieces compared with the same period of last year. The top ten districts of invention patent holding quantity per 10,000 persons in Shanghai were Xuhui District, Yangpu District, Changning District, Minhang District, Jing'an District, Pudong New District, Baoshan District, Songjiang District, Hongkou District and Jiading District.

In 2013, the top ten districts in Shanghai of invention patent authorization quantity were Pudong New District, Minhang District, Yangpu District, Xuhui District, Baoshan District, Pudong New District, Changning District, Jiading District, Putuo District and Jinshan District.
